Equator Village sits on the island of Gan in Seenu (Addu) Atoll. It is 78 villas across the island, enough to choose a quiet stretch of beach for the session. I have been photographing on Maldivian resort islands since 2013, and every session here runs the same way: I arrive on the resort's own transfer, meet you at your villa or the jetty, and we walk into the light.
I have not yet published a shoot from Equator Village, but I have worked across Seenu (Addu) Atoll and the shoots from neighbouring islands below show the light you can expect. Tell me your dates and I will confirm access to Equator Village within six hours.
The travel fee to Equator Village is US$847, always quoted on its own line, so the package price is the package price.
The light at Equator Village.
At Equator Village we start about an hour and a quarter before sunset on the sunset side of the island, move through the shallows as the light turns gold, and finish on the sandbank if the tide allows. The far south sits almost on the equator; the sun goes down fast and the blue hour is short, so we start a few minutes earlier than you would expect. Sunrise sessions are quieter still, and the water is at its clearest.
About the island

- The resort is connected by causeway to the inhabited villages of the atoll
- Ideal getaway for those who wish to experience a different side of the Maldives
- Access to the largest wreck dive site in the Maldives - WW2 cargo shipwreck The British Loyalty (Jan 5, 1946)
- Mantas can be seen all year round
- Addu is the only place in Maldives where manta rays with over 5 meter wing spans are known to exist
- Pristine unbleached coral formations uniquely found in Addu (House reef snorkeling)
- Golden sunsets by the mangroves with white terns found only in selective tropical lands

Questions about Equator Village.
How much does a photographer cost at Equator Village?
Portrait sessions start at US$320 (Tropical Memories, 20–40 minutes) and run to US$4,250 for a full day with drone and a sunset cruise. The travel fee to Equator Village is US$847. Weddings are quoted on the ceremony.
Can I book an outside photographer at Equator Village?
Most Maldivian resorts welcome a photographer booked directly by a guest; a few have an exclusive in-house studio. I confirm Equator Village's current policy with the resort before you pay anything — usually within six hours of your enquiry — and if the island is exclusive I will say so plainly.
What is the best time of day for photographs at Equator Village?
The last seventy-five minutes before sunset, then the blue hour. Sunrise is the alternative if you want the beach to yourselves and the flattest water. Midday is for the drone, not for portraits.
How do you get to Equator Village?
Equator Village is reached from Velana International Airport by resort transfer; I travel the same way, on the day. I book the same transfer through the resort and arrive on the day of the session.
When will we receive the photographs?
A sneak peek within 24 hours and the full edited gallery within 48 — often before you leave Equator Village. Every image is delivered in full resolution with a personal licence to print and share.
Which season is best at Equator Village?
Seenu Atoll has two monsoons: Iruvai (late November to early April) is the dry season with clear skies and still lagoons; Hulhangu (April to November) brings dramatic clouds, short showers and the best sunsets. I shoot year round; the plan simply changes with the sky.
