Dusit Thani Maldives sits on the island of Mudhdhoo in Baa (South Maalhosmadulu) Atoll. It is 104 villas across the island, enough to choose a quiet stretch of beach for the session. I have been photographing on Maldivian resort islands since 2013, and every session here runs the same way: I arrive on the resort's own transfer, meet you at your villa or the jetty, and we walk into the light.

At Dusit Thani Maldives we start about an hour and a quarter before sunset on the sunset side of the island, move through the shallows as the light turns gold, and finish on the sandbank if the tide allows. The northern atolls get slightly less rain than Malé in Hulhangu, and the light in Iruvai is as clean as anywhere in the country. Sunrise sessions are quieter still, and the water is at its clearest.
